Waldo Lake: Misquito Hell

We arrived at Fox Family Reunion last Sunday at Waldo Lake, Shadow Bay Campground, in the Williamette Mountains of Central Oregon. The campground was absolutely beautiful and the weather was perfect. Our pesky new misquito friends however were not! The minute we stepped out of the cars they swarmed us. Then we went to meet and greet the other relatives from Oregon, Washington, and Utah to find out they were ready to pack up and move out of camp the day before, and these were the family with trailors and fifth wheels....that's how bad the blood suckers were! Two days we lasted...and it was my dad that finally called it quits for us all....he said it was ridiculous and would rather be having a party at my mom's sisters house....so we drove into town and gave them a call.....where we made plans to meet at a different campground about an hour and half away....along the North Umpqua River. There definately had to be water because it was scorching hot outside. Here are the 3 pics I actually took at the first camp. Who wants to take pics if miquitos are landing and sucking ever chance you get....not to mention that annoying hum they do...that's why I called it a little look at hell. It would be hell to me to have to live like that all the time. I was not meant to be a pioneer, and that's why I was born in the late 1900's. lol....

The misquitos were crazy! We would literally have bug spray dripping on our arms we sprayed it on so thick and the misquitos would still land and bite. It seriously reminded me of one of those sci-fi type movies with mechanical bugs that could withstand anything and live through it all. We kept a smoking fire going to try to keep them away...and that didn't work. The only thing that worked was just to sit in the tent and do nothing....boring!

My boys wouldn't come out of the tent. McKade especially! For some reason they really liked his blood and by the end of the two days, he looked like he had chicken pox. Poor guys! I think he has Post Traumatic Stress now. Anytime anything flies by he starts panicking and saying its a misquito...even though it might just be a fly.

But of course Princess Molly was still all smiles through it all and actually came out of the camp quite unharmed. She also has quite the shoe fettish, so if you are around us and your shoes disappear....just go look for Molly! :-) Molly now has added a word to her vocabulary....MUH QEEETO!
